Every chair in your house holds you upright.

This one does not. There is no frame in it to stop you, so the seat gives where a wooden edge would push back, and the hour you spend in it at the end of the day is an hour your body is not being held straight.

  • No frame anywhere in it. No wood, no metal, no bar to find with your shoulder blade. The shape is the material, all the way through.
  • Forty-four inches across. Wide enough to sit sideways with your knees up, which is how you are going to use it.
  • It moves when you do. Nothing to unscrew, no legs to take off. Slide it to another room, another floor, another apartment, and it arrives as it left.
  • A 3D spacer air-mesh cover. The open honeycomb knit used on performance seating. It breathes instead of trapping heat under you, which matters when you sit in the same chair for an hour every evening.
  • The sofa matches, later. Two-seat and three-seat versions in the same thirteen colorways. Start here and add to it when you are ready.
  • 100 days to decide. Comfort is not something you can judge in a showroom, let alone on a screen. Sit in it for three months and send it back at our expense if it is not right.

For anyone who has tried three armchairs and found all of them too firm, too shallow, or too upright.

Materials & construction

No frame. The seat is compressed foam through and through, shaped rather than built, which is why there is no hard edge anywhere on it and why it goes into a box at all. The cover is a 3D spacer air-mesh knit.

Shipping & delivery

Free anywhere in the US, duties included. Every piece is made to order: about 15 days to make it, then shipped to your door, around 25 days in all. Alaska and Hawaii add a few days.

It travels compressed into a single carton, which is why it arrives as one box instead of a freight delivery you wait in for. No appointment window and no crew in your hallway.

Assembly

Cut the vacuum seal, let it take its shape, and put the piece where you want it. About ten minutes, no tools and no hardware to lose.

Returns & warranty

Live with it for 100 days. If it is not right, email us and we arrange the collection and refund you in full, with no restocking fee and no return shipping to pay.

Everything is covered against manufacturing defects for two years, in the foam and in the cover, seams included. It runs from your delivery date and is separate from the trial.

Contact us

contact@meltlyliving.com, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm ET. We reply within one business day, usually the same day. Include your order number and a photograph if something arrived wrong, that is normally enough to sort it in a single reply.

ALL IN THE DETAIL

The Cloud, up close

AP-89 1 seat bubble armchair in Cloud White 3D air-mesh, straight-on studio packshot

A seat with nothing rigid in it

There is no wood and no metal anywhere in the Cloud. The bubble volumes are not padding stretched over a frame, they are the structure itself, which is why the piece compresses into a single carton and why you never find a hard edge with your shoulder. At forty-four inches across it seats one comfortably, and its rounded silhouette reads as one object rather than a set of parts.

The comfort

A seat that gives where a wooden edge would push back. You settle into the shape rather than being held upright by it, and because there is no frame under the foam there is nothing to find with your back after an hour.

The silhouette

Deep rounded volumes, low to the floor, the same shape at every size. It has real presence in a room without crowding it, and the thirteen colorways let you match it to your floor instead of to a catalogue.

Macro of the 3D spacer air-mesh knit cover

A knit made for real life

The Cloud is covered in a 3D spacer air-mesh, the open honeycomb knit used on performance seating, not a looped pile. It breathes instead of trapping heat under you, it springs back rather than flattening where you always sit, and there is no loop for a claw to catch. Thirteen colorways, from Cloud White to Ink Black.

Composition

A three-dimensional spacer knit: two face layers held apart by a vertical monofilament core. That air gap is what makes it breathable and what makes it recover its shape, and it is why the cover feels nothing like a boucle or a velvet.

Resistance

No pile to crush and no loops to pull, so it does not pill and it does not flatten into a shine on the seat you always use. It lives well with a cat or a dog.

Care

Vacuum with a soft brush head. For a spill, blot with lukewarm water and a clean cloth rather than rubbing, and let it dry in the open air.

The AP-89 arrives in one long flat carton

Shipped compressed, returned without a fuss

It arrives vacuum-packed in a carton 14 inches square and 49 inches long, which clears a standard 30-inch door and turns in a stairwell. You cut the seal in the room where it is going to live, it takes its shape back, and about ten minutes later it is furniture. If it turns out to be wrong, you have 100 days and we pay for the collection.

Shipping

Free anywhere in the US, duties included. Made to order, about 25 days in all: roughly 15 days to make it, then shipping to your door. Tracking as soon as your piece leaves the workshop. Left at your door by a standard carrier, no appointment window and no crew in your hallway.

Setup

About 10 minutes, one person, no tools and no hardware to lose. Cut the vacuum seal, let the foam take its shape, put it where you want it.

100-day returns

Live with it for 100 days. If it is not right, tell us and we arrange the collection and refund you in full. No restocking fee, no return shipping, and nothing to repack. Colour that reads differently in your light is a valid reason.

What's inside, layer by layer

The layer you touch. An open honeycomb knit rather than a looped pile, so air moves through it instead of sitting against you and there is nothing for claws to catch. It springs back where you always sit instead of flattening.

A soft quilted sheet between the cover and the core. It takes the first few millimetres of every sit, which is what keeps the knit from being pulled tight over the foam and what gives the bubbles their soft edge.

The part that decides how it feels in year ten. High-resilience foam recovers its shape after each sit instead of packing down, and it is what the bubble volumes are shaped from.

No wood and no metal anywhere in it. The base is foam too, shaped rather than built, which is why nothing can work loose, why there is no hard edge to find with your shoulder, and why the whole piece compresses into one carton.

UNDER THE MESH

Built without a frame

Macro of the 3D spacer air-mesh knit cover

No wood, no metal

Nothing rigid anywhere in it. That is what lets it compress, what makes it light enough to move alone, and what removes the hard edge you feel on a conventional sofa.

The shape is the material

The form is not padding stretched over a structure. It is the structure. It cannot come loose from a frame it does not have.

IN YOUR SPACE

Three sizes, one shape

The same silhouette at 44, 68 and 96 inches. Start with the armchair and add the sofa later in the same colorway.

A shape that reads as one object

Low and rounded. It fills a room visually without crowding it, and it does not read as a set of parts.

Why we made this

"It will never make it up my stairs."

Every sofa I liked came with the same sentence somewhere in the checkout: delivery is kerbside, please ensure access. I lived on a fourth floor with a staircase that turned twice. Two delivery men once measured it, looked at each other, and carried my sofa back down. This one arrives as a single carton that clears a standard 30-inch door and turns in that stairwell. The three-seater included.

"Why is it a fraction of what I have seen this shape cost?"

Because it was built to compress, and everything else follows from that. No frame to assemble, no crate, no two-man delivery, no showroom floor. Compression is not a cheaper way to ship furniture, it is the only way to get a full-size sofa into a building like mine without a crew, a hoist, or a favour from three friends. That is where the money went, and where it did not.

"And if it isn't right?"

Three questions come up every time. Will it hold up: there is no frame in it, so nothing works loose, and the mesh springs back instead of flattening where you always sit. Will the colour be right: a screen cannot promise you that, which is why colour on its own is a valid reason to send it back. And if it is wrong: you keep it a hundred days, we arrange the collection, and you pay nothing. No restocking fee, no return shipping, and you never have to get it back in the box.

Frequently asked

Will it fit up my stairs?

The three-seater ships as one box 19 inches square and 49 inches long, weighing 128 pounds: a two-person carry. The two-seater box is 16.5 inches square (104 lb) and the armchair 14 inches square (66 lb). Every box clears a standard 30-inch door and turns in a stairwell.

How long does setup actually take?

About ten minutes. Cut the seal, let the piece take its shape, put it where you want it. No tools, no hardware, nothing to screw in.

When will it arrive?

About 25 days from the day you order: roughly 15 days to make your piece, then shipping to your door. That is why it takes a few weeks rather than two days. You get tracking as soon as it leaves the workshop.

Is the color true to the photos?

The mesh changes with the light in the room and with the calibration of your screen, so we will not promise you an exact match. Colour is a valid reason to return, and the 100-day trial exists partly for this.

Will it sag?

There is no frame to sag away from. The foam is compressed throughout and the air-mesh springs back rather than flattening where you always sit, so the shape holds instead of settling into a dip. Covered against manufacturing defects for two years.

Is the seat firm or soft?

Soft. You settle into it rather than sit on top of it, and with no frame under the foam there is no hard edge to stop you, not at the front of the seat and not behind your shoulder. If you want a firm, upright seat that holds you at ninety degrees, this is not that sofa. If you have been sitting on a frame and finding it by the end of the evening, it is.
